McAlpine Limited was incorporated in the Cayman Islands on April 20, 1970 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd to undertake construction work throughout the Caribbean.

The first contract undertaken by McAlpine was the Legislative Assembly Building for the Cayman Islands Government which began in July 1971.
